About choosing your PH
The choice of your Hunting Outfitter and Professional
Hunter is a difficult but important decision. At most of the
outdoor and hunting shows, you will need to wade through
piles of information collected from the many different
Outfitters and Exhibitors.
It is essential that rather than just pick up a brochure and
keep walking, you try to speak to the representatives at
these shows in order to get a feel for the kind of people
who will be your hosts when you finally reach your hunting
destination. Ideally, the person or people you speak to will
be the same individuals who will meet you at the airport
and take you through your paces once you reach the
hunting area. The best-case scenario is when there is a
husband and wife team, or well organized back-up
involved, as this means that there is always someone
available to take care of all the peripheral responsibilities,
communication and planning, prior to and during the
course of your safari. Additionally, should you be
accompanied by a non-hunting partner, there will always
be someone to see to their needs while you concentrate
on the business of hunting!

Here are some pertinent questions you could put to your
Outfitter or Professional Hunter:
Will the person you are communicating with be present at the
destination where your safari is to take place?
How long has he or she been in this business?
Do you have a list of references available?
How large are the hunting areas?
What species are available within easy distance from the main
accommodation areas?
What class of accommodation is available?
What is there for my wife/spouse/non-hunting friends and family
members to do while I am out hunting?
If I come in a larger group, do you have reputable, experienced
Professional Hunters available to assist who are familiar with the
hunting area?
Are the vehicles you use regularly serviced?
Will the field preparation of my trophies receive the attention they
deserve?
